ABSTRACT Arka is a perennial shrub widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. Owing to its immense widespread utility it holds significant importance in Ayurveda and is used widely for management of various diseases. It possesses significant therapeutic properties such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-microbial, and wound healing activities. The plant contains bioactive compounds like alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids and tannins, which contribute to its pharmacological effects. Despite its therapeutic potential, improper use may lead to toxicity. This paper reviews the botanical description, Ayurvedic properties, Phytochemistry, Therapeutic uses, pharmacological studies and safety aspects of Arka.
