ABSTRACT

This review explores the phytochemical composition and therapeutic potential of Murraya koenigii (curry leaf) in the context of herbal face pack formulations. As consumer demand increases for plant-based, safe, and multifunctional skin care agents, Murraya koenigii stands out for its rich profile of alkaloids, flavonoids, essential oils, and vitamins, which collectively offer antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging benefits. The article highlights botanical characteristics, traditional uses, and current scientific insights related to the plant's major bioactive constituents. Various extraction techniques such as Soxhlet, maceration, ultrasound, and microwave-assisted methods are discussed for their efficacy in obtaining high yields of key phytochemicals. The review emphasizes the incorporation of standardized Murraya koenigii extracts into topical products to improve skin health, defendagainst oxidative stress, and support skin regeneration. Notably, there are currently no commercially available face pack products formulated exclusively with curry leaves in the Indian or international cosmetic markets, despite the widespread use of curry leaves in other segments such as hair care and culinary applications. Therefore, this review highlights a significant gap and presents the rationale for future research. In upcoming work, we aim to develop and assess novel face pack formulations containing Murraya koenigii to bridge this gap and contribute to the range of innovative natural skincare solutions. By bridging traditional knowledge with modern validation, this synthesis presents Murraya koenigii as a promising natural ingredient for advanced cosmeceutical applications.
