ABSTRACT Migraine is a prevalent neurological disorder characterized by recurrent attacks of severe headache, nausea, photophobia, and phonophobia. Successful treatment of migraine is pivotal to enhance the quality of life of affected individuals. Sumatriptan, a selective serotonin receptor agonist, and naproxen sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), are commonly used in the management of acute migraine attacks. Dual therapy using these two drugs has gained important awareness due to their appreciative mechanisms of action. Sumatriptan acts by causing vasoconstriction of cranial blood vessels and inhibiting the release of inflammatory neuropeptides, whereas naproxen sodium reduces inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Several clinical studies have demonstrated that the dual therapy provides superior pain relief, reduced recurrence of migraine, and improved patient compliance compared to single therapy. This review summarizes the pharmacological profile, mechanism of action, clinical effectiveness, safety profile, and therapeutic advantages of sumatriptan and naproxen sodium combination therapy in the management of acute migraine. Keywords: Migraine, Sumatriptan, Naproxen Sodium, Combination Therapy, Acute Migraine Treatment, Triptans, NSAIDs. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
