*Pramila Garwal, Umesh Parekh, Manoj Goyal

ABSTRACT

Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a complex and multifactorial endocrine disorder that has emerged as one of the most prevalent health concerns among women of reproductive age. This condition is characterized by hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, ovarian dysfunction, and metabolic abnormalities, all of which contribute to its chronic nature and difficulty in management. The disorder not only affects reproductive health but also has systemic implications, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular risks, and psychological disturbances such as anxiety and depression. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in herbal medicine due to its holistic approach and minimal side effects compared to conventional therapies. Polyherbal formulations are particularly significant because they combine multiplemedicinal plants, each contributing unique pharmacological properties that work synergistically to produce enhanced therapeutic effects. The use of syrup dosage form further improves patient compliance, especially in long-term treatment, due to its palatability and ease of administration. This review provides a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the formulation and evaluation of polyherbal syrup for PCOD management, including detailed discussion of pathophysiology, herbal components, formulation techniques, evaluation parameters, challenges, and future prospects.
