Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL UNDER-EYE GEL USING CUCUMBER AND POTATO EXTRACTS

Dr. Talat Farheen*, Tejaswi Gogineni, Navya E., Sanjana Priscilla Remulla, Shiny Melina Malla

ABSTRACT

The present study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of a herbal under-eye gel prepared using natural plant extracts of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) and potato (Solanum tuberosum). The aim was to develop a stable, safe, and effective topical formulation for managing common periocular concerns such as dark circles, puffiness, and signs of fatigue. Carbopol 934 was used as the gelling agent, and four different formulations (F1–F4) were developed by varying the concentrations of the active herbal ingredients to optimize the final product. The prepared gels were evaluated for various physicochemical and cosmetic parameters including pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, washability, skin irritation, cooling effect, and stability studies. All formulations showed acceptable physicochemical characteristics suitable for topical application. Among the four formulations, F4 demonstrated the most balanced and optimized profile with ideal pH, appropriate viscosity, excellenthomogeneity, good spreadability, non-irritant nature, and superior stability. The study highlights the synergistic potential of cucumber and potato due to their moisturizing, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-brightening properties. The developed herbal under-eye gel offers a promising natural alternative to synthetic cosmetic products, providing improved safety, efficacy, and consumer acceptability for the management of periocular skin conditions.
