Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF KETOPROFEN HERBAL TRANSDERMAL PATCH FOR ARTHRITIS

Mr. Keskar Mohan Sambhaji*, Mr. Suryawanshi Milind Balaji, Dr. Ingole Ramesh Digambar

ABSTRACT

Patients' quality of life is greatly impacted by arthritis, a chronic inflammatory disease marked by joint pain, stiffness, swelling, and decreased mobility. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) like ketoprofen can cause gastrointestinal distress, first-pass metabolism, and systemic side effects when used orally. The goal of the current study is to create and assess a Ketoprofen Herbal Transdermal Patch for the efficient treatment of arthritis. To improve therapeutic efficacy and reduce side effects, the formulation blends ketoprofen with certain herbal extracts that have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant qualities. To guarantee regulated and prolonged medication release via the skin, the transdermal patch is made with the right polymers, plasticisers, and permeation enhancers. Physical appearance, thickness, weight fluctuation, folding durability, moisture content, drug content homogeneity, in vitro drug release, skin irritation, and stability tests are just a few of the assessment characteristics that are evaluated. Longer medication action, better patient compliance, fewer doses, and prevention of gastrointestinal issues are all provided via the transdermal method. While transdermal administration offers focused and long-lasting therapeutic activity, ketoprofen has shown efficacy in decreasing inflammation and discomfort related to arthritis. For the long-term treatment of arthritis, the created herbal transdermal patch is anticipated to be a safe, efficient, and patient-friendly substitute.
