INDUSTRY 7.0: THE SYMBIOTIC CONVERGENCE OF HUMANS, MACHINES AND INTELLIGENT ECOSYSTEM
Pranali L. Sakate*, Imran F. Mulla, Prajakta V. Jadhav, Manali D. Pandit
ABSTRACT Industrial revolutions have continuously transformed society through advancements in energy systems, manufacturing technologies, communication networks, and automation. From the mechanization of Industry 1.0 to the digital transformation of Industry 4.0, followed by the human-centric and sustainability-driven paradigms of Industry 5.0 and Industry 6.0, each phase has sought to address the limitations of its predecessor while enhancing industrial productivity and economic growth. However, emerging global challenges, including climate change, resource depletion, ethical concerns surrounding artificial intelligence (AI), and increasing socio-ecological complexity, necessitate a new industrial paradigm. This review explores the concept of Industry 7.0 as the next stage of industrial evolution, characterized by the symbiotic convergence of humans, intelligent machines, and natural ecosystems. The study presents a comprehensive overview of the historical development of industrial revolutions, examines the technological foundations of Industry 7.0, including AI, neuro-symbolic intelligence, digital twins, bio-inspired manufacturing, and renewable energy networks, and discusses the transition from human–machine interaction to human–machine–nature collaboration. Furthermore, the paper highlights the potential benefits, challenges, and future research opportunities associated with Industry 7.0, emphasizing ethical governance, regenerative industrial ecosystems, and sustainable innovation. The findings suggest that Industry 7.0 represents a transformative framework that extends beyond automation and digitalization, aiming to achieve a balance between technological advancement, human well-being, and environmental regeneration.
