ABSTRACT

Rubiacordifolia, commonly known as Manjistha, is a perennial climbing herb extensively used in traditional South Asian medical systems for blood purification, dermatological disorders, inflammation, and detoxification.[3] safety profile, and future research directions.[2] The review aims to consolidate current knowledge into an integrative framework that can inform both academic research and clinical application. These effects are mediated through modulation of key molecular pathways, including NF-κB, MAPK, PI3K/AKT, caspase cascades, and oxidative stress signalling.[20] Additionally, Manjistha exhibits significant dermatological benefits through tyrosinase inhibition, collagen promotion, and antimicrobial action, supporting its widespread use in cosmetic and skin-care formulations. Beyond therapeutics, its anthraquinone pigments have long-standing importance in the natural dye industry. Future research focusing on clinical trials, advanced formulation technologies, metabolomic profiling, and sustainable cultivation strategies may enhance the therapeutic reliability and commercial potential of Rubiacordifolia.[28] Overall, Manjistha represents a highly versatile medicinal plant with significant promise for integrative healthcare and industrial applications. Recent experimental research has revealed a wide spectrum of bioactivities including anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-microbial, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, and dermatoprotective effects. It provides a comprehensive discussion on Manjistha with emphasis on its botanical features, advanced phytochemistry, pharmacological mechanisms, molecular targets, biotechnological applications, safety profile, and future research directions[2] It aims to consolidate current knowledge into an integrative framework that can inform both academic research and clinical application safety profile, and future research directions.

Keywords: Rubiacordifolia; anthraquinones; phytochemistry; antioxidant activity; anti-inflammatory activity; anticancer potential; dermatological applications.
