A REVIEW ON PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF NYCTANTHES ARBOR-TRISTIS WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON WOUND HEALING
Tarang Gole*
ABSTRACT Wound healing is a dynamic and complex physiological process involving inflammation, tissue regeneration, and remodeling. The development of effective wound dressing systems with enhanced therapeutic activity has become an important area of research. Herbal-based formulations are gaining significant attention due to their natural origin, biocompatibility, low toxicity, and multiple pharmacological activities. Among medicinal plants, Nyctanthes arbor-tristis has been widely reported for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and wound healing properties. The present review article focuses on the therapeutic potential of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis leaf extract in herbal hydrogel film formulations for wound healing applications. Various extraction methods, phytochemical constituents, and pharmacological activities of the plant have been discussed along with different approaches used in the preparation of hydrogel-based wound dressings. The review also summarizes evaluation parameters of herbal hydrogel films including physicochemical properties, swelling behavior, mechanical strength, drug release profile, antimicrobial activity, and wound healing efficacy. Several studies revealed that hydrogel films loaded with Nyctanthes arbor-tristis extract provide a moist wound environment, controlled release of active constituents, and enhanced tissue regeneration. The presence of bioactive phytochemicals such as flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, andphenolic compounds contributes significantly to the wound healing potential of the formulation. Keywords: Nyctanthes arbor-tristis, wound healing, herbal hydrogel film, methanolic extract, phytochemical screening, antimicrobial activity, herbal formulation.
