READING MANA IN AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER PATIENT AND ITS MANAGEMENT
Dr. Bishnupriya Mohanty*, Arya Laxman Parab
ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by impairments in social interaction, communication, sensory processing, and repetitive behavior. Modern medicine primarily focuses on behavioral interventions and symptomatic management. Ayurveda provides a holistic perspective by correlating Autism with conditions such as Unmada, Manovikara, and disorders of impaired mental functioning. According to Ayurveda, Autism may arise from Beeja Dosha (genetic defects), maternal emotional disturbances, dietary errors, and vitiation of Doshas, especially Kapha and Vata. Ayurvedic management involves Shamana Chikitsa, Shodhana Chikitsa, Sattvavajaya Chikitsa, dietary modifications, and supportive therapies. This paper reviews the Ayurvedic perspective of ASD and highlights the potential role of Panchakarma, herbal formulations, psychotherapy, and lifestyle changes in improving social, behavioral, and cognitive outcomes.
