Dr. Raj Shikha*, Prof. Surendra Kumar Sharma, Dr. Preeti Gavali
ABSTRACT Background: Grahani Roga is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder described in Ayurveda, fundamentally linked to impairment of Agni. Vatika Grahani, characterized by Vata predominance and Vishama Agni, exhibits clinical features closely resembling Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Objective: To explore the association between Annavaha Srotodushti and Manovaha Srotodushti in Vatika Grahani and to correlate this interaction with the gut-brain axis in IBS. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive literary review was conducted using classical Ayurvedic texts such as Charaka Samhita, Madhava Nidana, and Ashtanga Hridaya, along with modern biomedical literature on IBS and gut-brain interaction. Results: The review reveals a strong bidirectional relationship between digestive dysfunction and psychological disturbances, aligning closely with the gut-brain axis concept. Conclusion: Vatika Grahani is a psychosomatic disorder requiring an integrative approach targeting both digestive and psychological components. Keywords: Vatika Grahani, IBS, Annavaha Srotas, Manovaha Srotas, Agni, Gut-brain axis. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
