ABSTRACT

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in using natural ingredients in skin care products due to concerns about the side effects of synthetic chemicals. This study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of a herbal lotion using Aloe vera gel as the primary active ingredient and tragacanth gum as a natural thickening agent. Aloe vera is widely used in cosmetic formulations due to its moisturizing and soothing properties. Aloe vera is extensively utilized in skincare formulations due to its hydrating, soothing, and protective effects on the skin. The lotion was prepared using simple and naturally derived ingredients such as Aloe vera gel, coconut oil, glycerin, rose water, vitamin E, and distilled water. Different batches were formulated by varying the amount of tragacanth gum to observe its effect on the consistency and performance of the lotion. The prepared formulations were evaluated based on theirappearance, pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, irritancy, and stability. The findings indicated that the lotion had a smooth texture, suitable pH for skin application, and good spreadability. The optimized formulation remained stable and did not cause any irritation, indicating its safety for topical use. The combination of natural ingredients contributed to enhanced moisturizing and skin-friendly properties. Overall, this study suggests that an Aloe vera herbal lotion prepared with tragacanth gum can serve as a safe, effective, and affordable alternative to synthetic cosmetic products, while also supporting the use of natural and eco-friendly ingredients in skin care.
