Abstract

LC–MS BASED PHYTOCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF AMRUTHARISHTAM, A CLASSICAL AYURVEDIC FERMENTED FORMULATION

Sibi Narayanan*, Bijeshmon P.P., D. Ramanathan

ABSTRACT

Amrutharishtam is a classical Ayurvedic fermented liquid formulation extensively prescribed for the management of fever, infections, digestive disorders, and convalescence. With the growing emphasis on scientific validation and quality standardization of traditional medicines, comprehensive chemical characterization is essential. In the present study, Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LC–MS) was employed to qualitatively profile the phytochemical constituents of Amrutharishtam. High-resolution quadrupole time-of-flight (QTOF) mass spectrometry was performed in both positive and negative electrospray ionization modes to achieve broad metabolite coverage. A total of 26 phytochemical constituents were tentatively identified, encompassing alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, iridoid glycosides, curcuminoids, fatty acids, monoterpenes, and phenolic ketones. The generated LC–MS fingerprint providesanalytical substantiation for the formulation’s traditional therapeutic claims and establishes a robust framework for quality control, batch consistency, and future standardization studies.
