AYURVEDIC SHALYA PROCEDURE OF UDDHARANA (EXTRACTION OF FOREIGN BODY) - A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT The eight surgical procedures are to cure tissue injury andinflammatory conditions. Foreign bodies should be removedusing direct visualization rather than blind probing wheneverpossible. This often requires extending an incision from theentry. The area can then be explored by carefully spreadingthe soft tissue with a hemostat. If the foreign body cannot bevisualized, the physician may be able to feel it with thehemostat. The foreign body can then be grasped and removedwith an alligator or splinter forceps, or the soft tissue dissectedover the end to visualize and remove. In this case an effort hasbeen made to draw a special attention on ancient surgicalconcepts of Sushruta Samhita practicing today with fewrefinements. This case study is to acknowledge global readersabout foremost documentation by Sushruta regarding ShalyaUddharana in emergency. A 57-year-old married womanconsulted the out patient department (OPD) of AbhilashiAyurvedic College And Research Institute Chailchowk, Mandi, with a chief complaint ofsevere pain in wrist of right hand due to penetration of sharp splinter since three weeksduration.
