Abstract

DIVINE DIMENSIONS IN HEALING: RE-ENVISIONING DAIVAVYAPASRAYA CHIKITSA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VANDHYATVA

Dr. Gopika P.*, Dr. Rachana H.V.

ABSTRACT

Background: Vandhyatva (infertility) is described in Ayurveda as a condition resulting from the disturbance of Garbha-Sambhava Samagri—the essential factors required for conception. While contemporary clinical practice focuses predominantly on Yuktivyapasraya Chikitsa (rational therapeutic measures), classical Ayurvedic texts place equal emphasis on Daivavyapasraya Chikitsa, recognizing the role of Adidaivika influences, karmic factors, and mental-spiritual alignment in reproductive fitness. Aim: To examine the classical foundations, cultural context, therapeutic rationale, and integrative clinical applicability of Daivavyapasraya in the management of Vandhyatva, while establishing its relevance in present-day reproductive health strategies. Methodology: A narrative critical review of Bṛhattrayi, Kashyapa Saṃhita, Vedas and Upanishads, traditional Garbha Samskara practices, and documented case references in Itihasa literature, combined with interpretive synthesis linking spiritual-ritual interventions to psychoneuroendocrine and socio-emotional mechanisms. Results: Daivavyapasraya Chikitsa supports reproductive capability by modulating stress response pathways, enhancing inter-personal bonding, stabilizing Dosha-Prakopa triggered by psychological agitation, nurturing favorable  epigenetic influences, and cultivating Satva alignment in the couple. Garbhadhana Samskara, Brhaspati Mantra recitation, Vrata, Homa, and Deva Upasana emerge as structured and purposeful interventions rather than cultural symbolism. Conclusion: Ayurveda’s reproductive care framework is inherently holistic and incomplete without Daivavyapasraya. A clinically integrative model that blends rational interventions with culturally congruent spiritual practices offers an ethically grounded, psychologically stabilizing, and physiologically supportive approach to infertility treatment.
