A PATH TO RECOVERY- A CASE STUDY IN ENDOMETRIOSIS MANAGEMENT
Anusha Purohit*, Shruti S. Patil
ABSTRACT Endometriosis is a chronic, inflammatory gynecological disorder with complex etiopathogenesis involving immune dysregulation, oxidative stress, altered gut microbiota, and significant psycho-neuro-endocrine involvement. Clinically, it manifests as severe dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, bowel and urinary disturbances, and marked deterioration in quality of life. The present article is based on a clinically advanced case of endometriosis with deep infiltrating lesions, bilateral ovarian endometriotic cysts, and associated bowel and urinary symptoms, compounded by chronic psychological stress and anxiety. From Ayurveda perspective, the condition reflects Tridosha involvement with Vata–Pitta predominance, Agnidushti, Ama formation, and vitiation of Rasavaha, Raktavaha, and Artavavaha Srotas, resembling the Samprapti of Grahani Roga. Considering the chronic inflammatory pathology and gut dysbiosis involvement highlighted in thiscase, a comprehensive, stage-specific Ayurveda treatment strategy focusing on Deepana–Pachana, Shodhana, Basti, external therapies, and neuromodulation was adopted. This background establishes the rationale for evaluating Ayurveda as a holistic, disease-modifying approach aimed at sustained symptom resolution and prevention of recurrence in endometriosis. Aims and Objectives: Understanding the role of Ayurveda treatment protocol which provides symptomatic relief, prevents disease progression, as well as helps in reversing the complex pathology through immunomodulation via a case study. Methodology: A single case study of a 28year old female with marital life of 3 years visited the OPD of Prasuti Tantra and Stree Roga, at Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research Hospital, Bengaluru on 12th March, 2025 with complains of with severe pain during menstruation over lower abdomen, low back region and thigh region since one year. On clinical evaluation and investigations, she was diagnosed with endometriosis. Results: Following the treatment, patient was relieved of all the presenting symptoms. The employed treatment protocol and regular follow up also helped in preventing the recurrence of symptamatology and hence improved the quality of life.
