Dr. Akanksha*, Prof. Dr. Vijayant Bhardwaj, Dr. Poonam Kamal

ABSTRACT

Nasa is a vital organ in Ayurveda, responsible for respiration, olfaction, and as a gateway for therapeutic administrationthrough Nasya Karma, thereby maintaining systemic health.Nasa Rogas, such as Peenasa, Nasapaka, Kshavathu,Pratishyaya, Nasakrimi, Nasa Arsha, Pootinasya, andApeenasa, can disrupt nasal function and overall well-being.Bhaishajya Ratnavali describes 29 classical Yogas for theirmanagement, tailored according to Dosha involvement, diseasetype, and site-specific requirements. These include internaltherapies (Pana), local applications (Pradeha), Nasya,Dhoomapana, Avapeeda, and herbo-mineral formulations. Forexample, Peenasa is treated with Ksheer preparations,Chitraka-Haritaki, and Panchamrita Rasa, while Pratishyayaemploys Panchalavana Siddha Ghrita, Darvyadi Dhoomavarti, and Pippalyadi Avapeeda. This compilation highlights theDosha-specific and localized approach of Ayurveda in nasaldisorders and serves as a useful reference for clinicians, researchers, and future clinicalstudies in nasal disease management.
