Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF ASRIGDARA (DYSFUNCTIONAL UTERINE BLEEDING) THROUGH AYURVEDIC INTERVENTION: A CASE STUDY

Dr. Rutuja S. Chavan*, Dr. Premanand Bhalerao

ABSTRACT

Asrigdara, a condition characterized by excessive and prolonged uterine bleeding, correlates with Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) in contemporary medicine. It is primarily attributed to the vitiation of Pitta dosha and Rakta dhatu. Conventional treatments often involve hormonal therapy or surgery, which may have side effects. Ayurveda offers a holistic approach focusing on dosha balance and dhatu nourishment. Objective: To document the efficacy of a tailored Ayurvedic regimen in managing a case of Asrigdara. Case Presentation: A 32-year-old female presented with complaints of excessive menstrual bleeding (ati-pravritti) for 7-8 days, passage of clots, fatigue, and pallor for six months. Intervention: A treatment protocol was designed in two phases: 1) Shamana Chikitsa (Pacifying therapy) during active bleeding with oral administrations of Ashokarishta,Chandraprabha Vati, and Pushyanuga Churna. 2) Shodhana Chikitsa (Purification therapy) – Virechana (therapeutic purgation) after the cycle, followed by a Rasayana (rejuvenative) phase with Ashwagandha Churna and dietary modifications. Outcome: Significant reduction in bleeding duration (to 5 days), complete cessation of clots, and marked improvement in hemoglobin levels (from 8.2 g/dL to 11.5 g/dL) and energy were observed over three menstrual cycles. Conclusion: This case study highlights that a systematic Ayurvedic approach involving Shamana, Shodhana, and Rasayana can effectively manage Asrigdara by addressing the root cause, improving quality of life, and avoiding invasive procedures.
