DESIGN, CHARACTERIZATION AND IN-VITRO EVALUATION OF A NOVEL BILAYERTABLET COMBINING IMMEDIATE-RELEASE AZITHROMYCIN(WITHSUPERDISINTEGRANT VIA SLUGGING METHOD ) AND SUSTAINED-RELEASE LEVOFLOXACIN(WITH HYPROMELLOSE VIA DIRECT COMPRESSION) FORSEQUENTIAL ANTIB

ABSTRACT This study successfully developed bilayer tablets combining azithromycin (IR layer) for rapid and levofloxacin (SR layer) for rapid for prolonged release. Slugging technique and super disintegrants helped azithromycin's faster dissolution. Different grades of HPMC helped prolonged the release of Levofloxacin for up to 12 hours. Optimized bilayer tablet demonstrated good physical properties, rapid solubilization of azithromycin, and sustained release of levofloxacin.
