FORMULATION, STABILITY, AND ANTIOXIDANT EFFICACY OF MAGNESIUM OXIDE-INFUSED ROSE EXTRACT GELS
Anjali Rajpoot*, Jeetendra Kushwaha, Dev Sharan Chaturvedi, Manish Kumar Sahu
ABSTRACT The Rosa indica extract was obtained using a solvent extraction method with 70% ethanol, yielding a thick, reddish-brown extract rich in flavonoids, phenolic acids, and essential oils. The gel formulations were prepared using Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) as the gelling agent and varying MgO concentrations, and the formulations were characterized by measuring their pH, viscosity, and stability at different temperatures. The gel formulations underwent a series of analytical tests, including pH measurement, viscosity analysis, stability testing, and antioxidant efficacy testing using DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays. The results demonstrated that the gel formulations maintained a skin-friendly pH range (5–7) across all concentrations of MgO. Additionally, viscosity measurements revealed that the gel's consistency improved with increasing MgO concentration. Stability studies showed that the gel formulations were stable at lower temperatures but exhibited signs of phase separation and microbial growth atelevated temperatures. The antioxidant assays revealed a significant increase in antioxidant activity with higher MgO concentrations, with the 2% MgO gel demonstrating the strongest antioxidant properties.
