SMART PHARMACEUTICS – WEARABLE AND IMPLEMENTABLE DRUG DELIVERY DEVICES
*Ankita A. Bhosale, Pradnya H. Gadhire, Dr. Sanjay K. Bais
ABSTRACT A significant breakthrough in contemporary medicine is represented by smart drug delivery systems (DDS), which combine cutting-edge industries like wearable technology, biomaterials, and nanotechnology. Unlike traditional DDS that often suffer from issues like limited bioavailability, undesired side effects, and lack of targeted action, these intelligent systems enable precise, controlled, and site-specific drug release. Devices like transdermal systems, microneedles patches, insulin pumps, and Electroceutical implants improve patient adherence and therapeutic results by administration that is automated and minimally invasive. Nanocarriers, including liposomes and nanoparticles, enhance drug solubility, stability, and targeted delivery, while stimuli-responsive systems allow controlled release based on internal biological cues for instance, pH, temperature, or enzymes. Furthermore, the development of customized therapies with programmable and adjustable drug delivery profiles is facilitated by the integration of biodegradable materials, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence (AI). These innovations have shown great potential in managing chronic illnesses, cancers, and genetic disorders by improving pharmacokinetic control. Keywords: smart pharmaceutics, biocompatible materials, controlled drug release, wearable and implantables, continuous monitoring. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
