According to Ayurveda, acne is classified under Kshudra Roga and is caused by the vitiation of the Vata, Kapha, and Raktadoshas. The disease is described as the appearance of pidikas(pustular eruptions) like the spines of the Shalmali tree, which primarily occurs on the face during youth. The concept of Lepa (externalapplication of herbal paste) is well established in Ayurveda for treating various skin ailments. According to Sushruta Samhita, Lepas have therapeutic properties that help open the circulatory channels, reduce inflammation, and enhance the skin's complexion.
