Abstract

REVIEW ON ADVERSE DRUG REACTION

*Samiksha Tijare, Vijay Chaudhary

ABSTRACT

Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), which affect individuals of all ages at varying intensities, have emerged as a global concern. Because of the contribution of drug-drug interactions, older adults on polypharmacy may have a high number of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). There are many different definitions of ADRs around the world. Nevertheless, many nations throughout the world adopted and embraced the World Health Organization's definition. In order to encourage the identification and reporting of ADRs, as well as to ensure and enhance patient safety, all health care workers are required to follow specific procedures. The ongoing certainty of the benefit-risk ratio of pharmaceuticals has been aided by the critical contribution of healthcare practitioners to ADRs databases, as well as by the databases themselves. assist in locating the uncommon ADRs that are not revealed by the drug's basic evaluation. Pharmacists play a vital role in maintaining medication safety by assisting in the prevention, identification, documentation, and reporting of ADRs. The clinical or hospital pharmacist should actively participate in the field of pharmacovigilance in order to improve the National pharmacovigilance programme. Negative drug reactions are also known as side effects. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are the harmful, unforeseen, and undesirable results of drug therapy. These reactions can result from self-treating or taking too much medicine without a prescription. The prescribed medications may cause unpleasant side effects, which may lead to negative drug interactions, in addition to the main effect. Most adverse medication reactions can be avoided. As a result, one should only use medications that have been properly prescribed in order to avoid undesirable drug interactions.

Keywords: adverse drug reactions, pharmacovigilance, self-medication, polypharmacy, prescribed medication, and long-term effects.
