EFFECT OF ALCOHOLIC AND AQUEOUS SOLVENTS ON DETECTION AND QUANTITIES OF PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS OF LEAVES AND STEMS OF GLOBULARIA (GLOBULARIA REPENS) BY USING GC-MASS METHOD

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of alcoholic and aqueous solvents in extracting phenolic compounds from the stems and leaves of Globularia sp. The alcoholic and aqueous extracts of both plant parts were analyzed for the amount of eleven different phenolic compounds. Depending on the plant part used and the solvent type, the concentration and composition of the extracted compounds varied considerably. For Globularia leaves, the aqueous solvent was more effective at extracting total phenols (20141.54 ppm), notably 2-Chlorophenol and 2,4-Dimethylphenol. The alcoholic solvent, however, showed greater capacity for extracting 2,4-Dinitrophenol at a much higher concentration (13466. 89 units). The alcoholic extract was much better for the stems (27518. 17 ppm) because of its exceptionally high concentration of 2,4-Dinitrophenol (25998. 15 ppm), but the performance The aqueous solvent's quality was quite low. These results suggest that selecting the right solvent and plant component is essential for achieving a high yield of particular phenolic compounds in the extraction process.
