UNVEILING THE THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF ZIZIPHUS OENOPOLIA: ETHNOBOTANY, PHYTOCHEMICAL PROFILE AND PHARMACOLOGY INSIGHTS – A REVIEW
Annamalai, Kasthuri*, Mumthaj Begum, Syed Anwar, Priyanka, Sakthi
ABSTRACT This review characterizes Ziziphus oenopolia (family: Rhamnaceae) and builds on its ethnomedicinal and ethno pharmacological value. It attempts to archive information on its classification, traditional uses, phytochemistry and biological activities for subsequent research and therapeutic pursuits. Information for the review was obtained from reputable journals and databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Google Scholar, and ethno botanical surveys. The phytochemical research indicates the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, and phenolic compounds, which explain the various pharmacological activities of the plant. The plant has been shown to possess considerable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic activities, and significant antidiabetic and hepatoprotective activities, which, however, need to be supported by further research to pharmacologically confirm these activities. Ziziphus oenopolia has the potential to be a rich source of bioactivecompounds. It is important that the plant undergoes further detailed phytochemical studies and clinical research to determine its possible incorporationinto modern therapeutics. Keywords: Phytochemistry, ethnomedicine, bioactive compounds, pharmacological activities, therapeutic potential. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
