Abstract

A CASE STUDY ON HEMIFACIAL SPASM (ARDITA VYADHI) MANAGED THROUGH AYURVEDIC INTERVENTION

Dr. Suresh Amrutbhai Prajapati*, Dr. Kinjal Jeetendrakumar Panchal

ABSTRACT

A 73-year-old hypertensive, non-diabetic female presented with involuntary twitching of both eyelids (left side predominant) and watering of the left eye for three years, which began after bilateral cataract surgery. The symptoms were aggravated by blowing the mouth and emotional stress. Clinical features suggested Hemifacial Spasm, which in Ayurveda correlates with Ardita Vyadhi, a Vata-pradhana neurological disorder. The patient underwent 10 days of Ayurveda therapy with Rasayan Vati (2-0-2), Krimikuthar Rasa (2-0-2), and Nasya Karma using Anu Taila (6 drops in each nostril daily) along with Tila Taila Abhyanga, Mridu Swedana, followed by Dhoomapana and Kavala. After the treatment, there was marked reduction in eyelidtwitching and watering, with improved facial relaxation and no adverse effects. The case demonstrates that Ayurvedic Vata-shamana therapies, especially Nasya and Rasayana chikitsa, can provide effective, non-invasive management for post-surgical Hemifacial Spasm (Ardita Vyadhi).

Keywords: Hemifacial Spasm, Ardita Vyadhi, Nasya Karma, Anu Taila, Rasayan Vati, Vata Vyadhi.
