COPPER OXIDE-ENHANCED CURCUMA LONGA EXTRACT GELS: FORMULATION, STABILITY AND ANTIOXIDANT EFFICACY
Narendra Ahirwar*, Jeetendra Kushwaha, Dev Sharan Chaturvedi
ABSTRACT Curcuma longa-CuO nanoparticle gels represent stable, safe, and effective topical delivery systems leveraging natural and nanomaterial-based antioxidant benefits. The physicochemical and biological data provide a strong foundation for advancing in vivo and clinical studies. Future research should focus on assessing the gels' wound healing and anti-inflammatory activities, capitalizing on known therapeutic effects of both Curcuma and copper oxide in skin repair and regeneration. Biocompatible topical gels incorporating copper oxide nanoparticles at different concentrations (1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5% w/w) within a Curcuma longa extract base. Physicochemical characterization revealed that the gels exhibited a concentration-dependent color change due to interactions between the nanoparticles and Curcumapigments, while maintaining smooth, homogeneous textures suitable for patient application. The pH values, aligning with the skin's natural range, remained stable over three months, ensuring minimal irritation potential and confirming effective neutralization by triethanolamine. Viscosity increased with nanoparticle content, enhancing skin retention without compromising spreadability, and particle size analysis confirmed well-dispersed, homogeneous nanoparticles crucial for consistent antioxidant delivery.
