COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND THEIR PREVENTION: AN INTEGRATED AND AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE
Dr. Harshita Rautela*, Dr. Smita Zambare, Dr. Satya Manav Daya
ABSTRACT Communicable diseases continue to pose significant public health challenges worldwide, despite advances in biomedical science. Caused by pathogenic microorganisms and spread through direct or indirect contact, these illnesses often affect large populations, particularly when environmental and social conditions are unfavorable. Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, conceptualizes such outbreaks under Janapadodhwansa Vyadhi—diseases that strike communities due to the vitiation of air, water, land, and seasonal irregularities. Preventive measures in Ayurveda emphasize swasthavritta (rules of healthy living), dinacharya (daily regimen), ritucharya (seasonal regimen), and rasayana (immunomodulatory therapies). This article integrates modern biomedical approaches with Ayurvedic preventive wisdom, highlighting the value of personal hygiene, sanitation, vaccination, immunity enhancement, and eco-friendly practices in preventing communicable diseases.
