Abstract

DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF GASTRO RETENTIVE FLOATING MICROSPHERES OF REBAMIPIDE

Nishmitha*, Shreyas K. N., Bhavya

ABSTRACT

The present investigation was to formulation and development of floating microspheres of Rebamipide by solvent diffusion method using different polymers like Ethyl cellulose, HPMC-K4M, HPMC-K15M. The prepared microspheres were evaluated for various parameters like particle size, shape and surface morphology, drug content, buoyancy, percentage yield, in-vitro drug release study, stability studies and in-vitro drug release kinetic study. Scanning electron microscopy shows that spherical microspheres with porous surface were formed. FT-IR study confirmed the drug-polymer compatibility. All floating microspheres formulations showed good flow properties and In-vitro Buoyancy percentage was found to be 79.41-89.37%. Among all formulations, F2 showed appropriate balance between buoyancy and drug release rate (90% in 12 hours), hence it is considered as the best formulation. The data obtained in this study thus suggests that the floating microspheres of Rebamipide arepromising for sustained drug delivery which can be used for reducing dosing frequency.

Keywords: Rebamipide, Buoyancy, Floating microspheres, In-vitro release.
