Abstract

DEVELPOMENT OF FLOATING DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR GASTRO-RETENTIVE RELEASE

*Vishal Kumar Das, *Mr. Sachin Kumar, *Rajaram R. Rajbhar

ABSTRACT

Gastro-retentive floating drug delivery systems (GRFDDS) represent a significant advancement in pharmaceutical science aimed at improving drug absorption and therapeutic effectiveness. This review covers key developments since 2015, focusing on formulation methods, the mechanisms that enable these systems to float in the stomach, and their broad applications in medicine. It highlights the important roles of polymers, gas-generating agents, and modern optimization techniques in designing efficient floating drug delivery systems. The review also discusses how GRFDDS tackle clinical challenges, such as treating gastrointestinal diseases and enhancing the uptake of drugs with limited absorption areas, through sustained and controlled drug release. Importantly, it assesses the safety and effectiveness of these systems, underscoring their capacity to improve patient adherence and treatment outcomes. Overall, the article consolidates current understanding and calls for continued research to further develop GRFDDS for improved patient care.
