CASE STUDY ON WATER-SMELLING LEAF NATURAL PRODUCT
Dronadula Borraiah*
ABSTRACT In the 1990s, the water-smelling leaf (commonly used in traditional practices in India) was investigated for its potential association with liver cancer. Preliminary observations raised concerns about its hepatocarcinogenic properties, prompting further evaluation under controlled laboratory conditions. The present study aims to assess the effects of this plant on liver health, with a particular focus on carcinogenic outcomes. Laboratory experiments were designed to examine biochemical, histological, and molecular alterations in hepatic tissues following exposure to the plant extract. Findings from these investigations are expected to provide scientific insights into the safety profile of the water-smelling leaf, clarify its role in liver cancerdevelopment, and contribute to risk assessment and regulatory considerations.
