V?RYA IN DRAVYAGU?A – CLASSICAL WISDOM, COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVES, MODERN CORRELATION, AND CLINICAL APPLICATIONS
Dr. Avinash Bais*, Dr. Damini Sahu and Dr. Devyani Rathore
ABSTRACT Vīrya in Āyurveda denotes the intrinsic potency or active principle of a substance that governs its therapeutic action. Ancient Ācāryas have described Vīrya variously, most notably under Dvi-Vīrya, Ṣaḍ-Vīrya, and Aṣṭa-Vīrya classifications. While their approaches differ, convergence exists in the recognition of Śīta (cooling) and Uṣṇa (heating) potencies as the primary functional polarities. This paper explores the concept of Vīrya through classical references, compares different viewpoints, identifies points of synthesis, relates them to modern pharmacodynamics, and highlights their clinical relevance in contemporary practice. Keywords: V?rya, Dravyagu?a, Dvi-V?rya, ?a?-V?rya, Pharmacodynamics, Dr. Abhimanyu’s Ayueveda Multispeciality Hospital, Raipur, CG. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
