NANO-EMULSIONS IN WOUND HEALING: A FOCUS ON THE HEALING POWER OF CITRONELLA ESSENTIAL OIL
Arya P. V.*, Dr. Ann Rose Augusthy, Baby Nishma, Twinkle N.U. and Ansira P.
ABSTRACT The quest for efficient and biocompatible wound-healing agents has led to an increased interest in natural products, particularly essential oils with antimicrobial and regenerative properties. Among these, citronella essential oil, known for its potent anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, has gained attention. However, its volatility and poor water solubility limit its direct application in clinical settings. Nano-emulsification presents a promising strategy to overcome these limitations by enhancing stability, bioavailability, and skin penetration of essential oils. This review explores the therapeutic potential of essential oils in wound care, role of nano-emulsified citronella essential oil in wound healing, advantages over conventional formulations, and recent advancements in nano-emulsion technology. By integrating current findings, the review aims to underscore citronella’s prospects as a natural, sustainable agent in next-generation wound care applications. Keywords: Citronella essential oil, Nano-emulsion, Wound healing, Antimicrobial activity. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
