HEALTH CHALLENGES DURING MENOPAUSE AND THEIR SOLUTIONS
Dr. Bhushan Kumar Chougule*, Dr. Vidhi Thakral and Dr. Pushpa Godara
ABSTRACT Menopause marks the permanent cessation of menstruation, typically between 45–55 years, due to ovarian follicular depletion. The Stages of Reproductive Aging Workshop (STRAW) classifies reproductive aging into defined stages around the final menstrual period. Onset is influenced by genetics, environment, lifestyle, surgery, and medical treatments. Pathophysiology involves estrogen withdrawal and fluctuations, affecting thermoregulation, urogenital tissues, skin, mood, cognition, cardiovascular health, and bone density. Diagnosis is based on amenorrhea for 12 months, characteristic symptoms, vaginal cytology, and low estradiol. In Ayurveda, menopause is described as Rajakshaya, a natural consequence of Rasa Dhatu depletion during aging, dominated by Vata dosha. Management focuses on balancing doshas, nourishing dhatus, and alleviating symptoms through herbal decoctions (e.g., Guduchyadi Kashaya, Shatavari Ksheera Kashaya), local therapies (Yoni Kshalana, Pichu, Varthi), adequate hydration, nutritious diet, and personal hygiene. This integrative approachsupports hormonal balance, enhances quality of life, and promotes healthy aging during the menopausal transition. Keywords: Menopause, STRAW stages, estrogen withdrawal, vasomotor symptoms, osteoporosis, cardiovascular risk, urogenital atrophy, cognitive changes. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
