CRITICAL INSIGHTS AND REVIEW ON ARTAVA KSHAYA (OLIGOHYPOMENORRHEA)

ABSTRACT

Menstrual disorders are a common complaint of women in today‟s era. The reasons can be sedentary and stressful life, improper nutrition or any underlying pathology. Acharyas have told that symptoms of a disease can later manifest as a disease itself. Artava kshaya is one such disease which is a lakshana of artava vyapads like Vataja artava dushti, Ksheena artava dushti. If not diagnosed priorly Artava kshaya itself may manifest as a disease. Artava kshaya is characterized by delayed and scanty menstruation associated with pain in yoni pradesha. This can be correlated to Oligomenorrhea and Hypomenorrhea in modern literature. Ayurvedic classics explain Shodhana, Agneya dravya prayoga, basti and pathya as treatment in the correction of Artava kshaya.
