UPAPLUTHA YONIVYAPATH (VULVOVAGINITIS DURING PREGNANCY) - A CONCEPTUAL STUDY

ABSTRACT Pregnancy is a joyful journey. It also brings unique health challenges due to anatomical, physiological and immunological changes that can predispose to infection. In our classics white discharge per vagina in pregnancy explained as Upaplutha yonivyapath. Acharyas explained about nidana, samprapthi, lakshana and chikitsa of upaplutha yonivyapath. But only acharya charaka clearly mentioned it is a disease of pregnant women. Upapluta yonivyapath can be compared to vulvovaginitis during pregnancy. It is mainly due to bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis and trichomoniasis. Infection in the birth canal may cause premature rupture of membranes and preterm labor resulting in pregnancy loss.[1] So, it is necessary to initiate the treatment at early phase to prevent the complications of vulvovaginitis during pregnancy.
