IMPACT OF RASAYANA THERAPY ON KALA SHARIRA WITH RESPECT TO AGEING – A REVIEW

ABSTRACT The global population is said to comprise upto 60% by the geriatric population by year 2050. According to Ayurveda, the three main factors related to ageing are ahara, nidra and brahmacharya. Various anatomical disorders and structural weakness are common entities seen in geriatric population which is also associated with chronic diseases. As age advances, changes take place in the appearance as well as in the condition of agni, dosha, dhatu, mala and ojas. Due to this, the quality of life in geriatric population is a major concern. Ayurveda has a separate branch of medicine called jara chikitsa dealing with degenerative phase of life involving management and rejuvenation. There is need for rasayana in today’s world as sedentary lifestyle has deteriorated individual health.
