Dhivya N.*, Dr. Ranjith M., Prakash S., Sathya Jasmine A., Yuvakiruthiga S.
ABSTRACT In recent years, there has been a growing interest in utilizing medicinal plants from traditional healing systems to manage various ailments. Among these, Abutilon indicum, commonly known as Atibala or Thuthi and belonging to the Malvaceae family, has garnered significant attention due to its wide range of therapeutic applications. It is extensively used in traditional medical systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Tibetan, and folk medicine, where different parts of the plant—including leaves, flowers, fruits, and the whole plant—are employed to treat numerous health conditions. Scientific studies have confirmed its pharmacological properties, including anticonvulsant, larvicidal, immune-modulating, and cholesterol-lowering effects. Onenotable application of Abutilon indicum is in the treatment of hemorrhoids (piles), a common anorectal disorder characterized by swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus. While modern treatments typically involve medications and surgical interventions, Thuthi has shown promising potential as an effective alternative remedy in traditional medicine. This review focuses on exploring the phytochemical composition, medicinal benefits, and therapeutic role of Thuthi leaves, particularly in the management of hemorrhoids.[1,2] Keywords: Abutilon indicum, Thuthi leaf, Traditional Medicine, Hemorrhoids, antimicrobial, Anorectal, antiulcer, folk medicine.[1,2] [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
