ABSTRACT

According to Ayurvedic classics, Dantaharsha is a Vata-dominant Dantaroga[1] that exhibits clinical characteristics resembling dentin hypersensitivity (DH), sharp, fleeting pain from exposed dentinal tubules in response to thermal, tactile, osmotic, or chemical stimuli is a common dental condition known as dentin hypersensitivity (DH).[2] Although they provide symptomatic relief, modern desensitizing agents such as potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride frequently have disadvantages, such as high cost, chemical exposure, and poor long-term efficacy. A similar condition called Dantaharsha, which is mainly brought on by Vata vitiation, is described in Ayurvedic literature. One important therapeutic strategy is kavala, or gargling, with medicated oils.[3] The polyherbal formulation Irimedadi Taila, which is mentioned in the Sarngadhara Samhita, contains antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and vata-pacifying ingredients. The effectiveness, method of preparation, and analytical parameters of Irimedadi Taila in the treatment of Dantaharsha are assessed in this review.[4] It is suggested to use a randomized controlled clinical trial design to compare Irimedadi Taila Kavala with a typical mouthwash that desensitizes over a period of 15 days. The formulation's quality and stability are confirmed by physicochemical and organoleptic analyses. By correcting the doshic imbalance and encouraging the healing of oral tissue, Irimedadi Taila's holistic action presents a promising substitute or supplement to contemporary therapies. The review emphasizes the need for additional clinical validation of conventional formulations like Irimedadi Taila in the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity and supports the integration of Ayurvedic protocols into mainstream dental care.
