PHARMACOGNOSTICAL EVALUATION OF PUSHKARMOOLA (INULA RACEMOSA HOOK.F) ROOT

ABSTRACT Background: The present article reveals the Pharmacognosy study of Pushkarmoola (Inula Racemosa Hook.f.) root. Material & Method: Pharmacognostical study was carried out to supplement the necessary information for the systematic identification and authentication of this plant. Observation & Result: Roots are cylindrical, straight longitudinal striations, camphoraceous smell and bitter in taste. In microscopic studies the presence of rytidoma, cambium, secretoty cavities, xylem, prismatic crystals, medullary rays cork and pith are found. In powder microscopy sclereid, starch grain, fibers, yellow crystal, Prismatic crystal, Cork cells and xylem. Conclusion: The structures which are observed here, helps in correct identification of Pushkarmoola (Inula Racemosa Hook.f.) root.
