4D PRINTING SKIN PATCHES FOR SMART WOUND HEALING AND DRUG DELIVERY
Vishalatchi K.*, Dr. K. Rithika, Mr. S. Prakash, Archana A., Devipriya K.
ABSTRACT 4D-printed skin patches represent a cutting-edge advancement in the field of biomedical engineering, merging the precision of 3D printing with the dynamic adaptability of stimuli-responsive materials. Unlike traditional wound dressings or drug delivery systems, 4D-printed patches can change shape, release therapeutics, or adapt their properties in response to environmental triggers such as temperature, pH, or moisture. This innovative approach enables personalized, on-demand therapies that improve healing outcomes, reduce infection risks, and enhance patient comfort. Despite challenges related to material selection, fabrication complexity, and regulatory approval, ongoing research and technological progress are rapidly expanding theclinical potential of 4D-printed skin patches for wound healing and transdermal drug delivery. Keywords: Biomedical engineering, stimuli-responsive material, temperature, moisture, fabrication complexity, regulatory approval, transdermal drug delivery.
