PHARMACOGNOSTICAL EVALUATION OF ERANDA (RICINUS COMMUNIS L.) ROOT

ABSTRACT Background: The present article reveals the Pharmacognosy study of Eranda (Ricinus communis L.) root. Material & Method: Pharmacognostical study was carried out to supplement the necessary information for the systematic identification and authentication of this plant. Observation & Result: Roots are cylindrical, rough, longitudinally ridged, odourless and bitter in taste. In microscopic studies the presence cork, cortex, xylem, phloem, medulary rays, starch grains, rosette crystals, pith are found. In powder microscopy starch grain, rosette crystals, cork cells and vessels. Conclusion: The structures which are observed here, helps in correct identification of Eranda (Ricinus communis L.) root.
