Abstract

POLYHERBAL AND SYNTHETIC HYBRID SOAP: A SYNERGISTIC APPROACH USING KOJIC ACID WITH HERBAL EXTRACTS

Parikshit D. Shirure, Samarth S. Gajul* and Krushna G. Kamble

ABSTRACT

The increasing demand for effective yet gentle skincare products has driven innovation toward hybrid formulations that combine the potency of synthetic actives with the safety and holistic benefits of herbal ingredients. This study presents the development of a polyherbal and synthetic hybrid soap, utilizing Kojic acid—a well-known depigmenting agent—in synergistic combination with select herbal extracts known for their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and skin-soothing properties. Herbal components such as Moringa Oleifera and Rubia cardiofolia were selected based on ethnopharmacological relevance and dermatological efficacy. The formulation was evaluated for physicochemical properties, pH, foaming capacity, stability, antimicrobial activity, and skin compatibility. Preliminary results indicate enhanced efficacy in reducing hyperpigmentation, improving skin tone, and providing antimicrobial protection without compromising skin hydration or causing irritation. The synergy between Kojic acid and the herbal matrix underscores a promising direction for cosmeceuticals that aim to bridge traditional herbal wisdom with modern dermatological science.
