FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL MEDICATED LIP BALM
Yugali D. Charde*, Sapan K. Shah and Dinesh R. Chaple
ABSTRACT In this study, an herbal lip balm was formulated using a combination of ingredients, including mint leaves, olive oil, honey, coconut oil, beeswax, and peppermint oil. The formulation process involved the infusion method, where these ingredients were combined and allowed to infuse together. A homogeneous mixing method was employed to ensure uniform distribution of the constituents, resulting in the production of the herbal lip balm. The formulated lip balm underwent evaluation under various parameters including pH, melting point, physicochemical properties, and spreadability. These parameters are crucial for assessing the quality and efficacy of the lip balm. the antimicrobial activity of the herbal lip balm was evaluated using the agar well diffusion method, with Escherichia coli (E. coli) chosen as the test organism. This method helps determine if the lip balm could be useful for treating infections caused by these bacteria when applied to the lip. The results of this study are derived from the evaluation of formulated batches of both lip balms based on various evaluation parameters. Through this evaluation, the optimized batches of both lip balms are identified. Additionally, the antimicrobial growth of both lip balms is depicted graphically, allowing for a visual comparison of their effectiveness in inhibiting microbial growth. The herbal lip balm prepared from the above ingredients could be effective as compared to conventional lip balm for various lip issues. Keywords: herbal lip balm, infusion method, mint oil, physicochemical properties, antimicrobial activity. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
