PHYTOCHEMICALS ANALYSIS AND BIOLOGICAL STUDY OF CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS LEAF (VINCA)
Pratiksha Dahal* and Prof. Mohan P. Amatya
ABSTRACT This research investigates phytochemical and biological study including moisture content, percentage yield of different extract, Total ash value, Acid insoluble ash, water soluble ash, Total phenolic content, Total flavonoids content, Anti-oxidant activity, and Cytotoxicity activity. The plant was found to contain alkaloids, phenols, glycosides, carbohydrates, saponin tannins, coumarin and flavonoids. Ethyl acetate extract showed highest phenolic content 40mgGAE/gm and highest flavonoid content 33.22mgQE/gm. Results showed that the ethyl acetate extract possessed significantly higher antioxidant activity(IC50 value; than, 26.67 ±3.29 μg/mL) than four extracts of the plant from different solvent. The methanol and ethanol Extract showed moderate antibacterial activity against Bacillus cereus. All the extract of the plant showed cytotoxicity but mostly high toxicity was observed in methanol followed by ethyl acetate i.e. (152±57.03 and 243.62±42μg/mL) and ethanol and water were foundto be (432±58.6 and 277±36.711μg/mL) The moisture content, total ash value, acid insoluble ash and water soluble ash was found to be 7.8%, 10.5%, 9% and 6%. And percentage yields of ethanol, methanol, ethyl acetate and water were found to be 10.8, 20, 8.4 and 35.2%. All the biological activity (antimicrobial, antioxidant, cytotoxic activity) were evaluated on methanolic, ethanol, ethyl acetate and water extract of Catharanthus roseus. Keywords: .
