CLOZAPINE-INDUCED EOSINOPHILIA: A CASE REPORT
Rosmi Tijo Paul* and Rosna Maria Roy*
ABSTRACT Clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic drug eligible for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. It frequently represents the best and the only choice in resistant schizophrenia. Eosinophilia has been reported as an uncommon side effect of clozapine and is seen in around 1% in clozapine-treated patients. Drug induced eosinophilia has been defined as >600/ mm3 eosinophil count in peripheral blood smear. A schizophrenic 56-years-old man was seen in acute setting for behavioural changes. Due to poor response to other antipsychotics, he was put on clozapine. After about 3rd weeks of initiation of clozapine, the WBC count of the patient increased to 17,000/ mm3. Keywords: Clozapine, Eosinophilia, Schizophrenia, Antipsychotic drug. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
