Abstract

PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF WOUND HEALING ACTIVITY OF POLYHERBAL FORMULATION OF NEOLAMARCKIA CADAMBA (FLOWER) AND BRYOPHYLLUM PINNATUM (FLOWER) EXTRACTS (COMPARATIVE STUDY)”

ABSTRACT

This page provides a thorough assessment of the sources utilized as wound healing. We have transitioned from traditional herbal medicines to preclinical data, research that concentrate on plant extracts and identified phytochemical elements with potential wound healing efficacy in polyherbal formulation. The polyherbal extract of Bryophyllum Pinnatum and neolamarckia cadamba flowers was examined at five group formulation in albino rats using the excision model. The wound healing activity was assessed by wound contraction are measured by a tracing paper and then comparing it with standard gentamicin gel and calculated as percentage reduction in wound area with 21 days. Qualitative phytochemical screening of neolamarckia cadamba is showed the presence of active metabolites such as Alkaloids, flavonoids, saponin, glycosides and carbohydrates is presented and Bryophyllum pinnatum showed the presence of active metabolites such as Alkaloids, glycoside, carbohydrates, flavonoids, steroids, tannin and steroids. It also tells quantitative phytochemical assay which was performed by calculating total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC). After that the TPC was calculated with respect to gallic acid (standard) and TFC was then calculated with respect to rutin taken as standard. In this the wound contraction studies revealed that the wound contraction increases on increasing the concentration of herbal extract. The study also reveals that the better activity of polyherbal formulation may be due to the synergistic action of the plants constituents present in the formulation. Thus, the prepared topical gels possess a versatile approach in healing the wound contraction.
