ABSTRACT

Background: Diabetes mellitus and Hyperlipidaemia are reasons of high mortality and morbidity rate world-wide because of lack of sufficient medication for the complete cure. These diseases can be managed by proper nutritious diet consisting of green leafy vegetables. Incorporation of microgreens in daily diet as food might fulfil the nutritional requirement and show multiple beneficial effects. Objective: This review provides insights to antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic potential of bioactive compounds from microgreens – An Overview of Pharmacological Evaluation. Methodology: Multiple articles from different recognized journals indexed in PubMed, Elsevier, Scopus, Web of Science, Willey were referred to. Total 85 literatures published with 2025 were referred for writing this review article. Result: Studies indicate that wide array of phytochemicals presents in microgreens exhibit different mechanistic approaches to maintain blood glucose level, increase insulin uptake, reduced glucose absorption, and β-cell function. The antihyperlipidemic effects are primarily attributed to the modulation of lipid metabolism pathways, reduction of cholesterol synthesis, and enhanced fatty acid oxidation. This review synthesizes findings from in vivo and in vitro studies, highlighting the molecular mechanisms underlying these therapeutic effects. Since microgreen shows health managing potential, they are called ‘functional’ or ‘superfood’. Conclusion: Microgreens are sources of health-promoting phytochemicals that are importantly associated with the supportable developmental goals of health and welfare, which provides detailed insights about its nutrition and commercial uses. In future in-vitro or in-vivo studies can be conducted to quantify the potency of Pharmacological attributes of different microgreens.
