A CLINICAL REVIEW OF PRACHCHANNA KARMA: INDICATIONS, PROCEDURE, AND THERAPEUTIC UTILITY
*Dr. Parveen Kumar and Dr. T. Udaya Kiran
ABSTRACT Prachanna Karma is a classical Ayurvedic technique classified under Shastrakrita Raktamokshana, one of the five principal Shodhana. It involves multiple superficial incisions on the affected area using a sharp instrument like Koorcha Shastra or a blood lancet, facilitating the elimination of vitiated Rakta and Pitta doshas. This method is particularly indicated in conditions involving Pindita Rakta, such as hematoma, cellulitis, early-stage filariasis, and insect bites. The procedure comprises three stages—Purvakarma, Pradhana Karma, and Pashchat Karma. Proper incision technique is critical to ensure safety and effectiveness. Prachanna Karma promotes local detoxification, enhances blood circulation, and stimulates tissue regeneration. It also improves the absorption of topical medications by creating microchannels in the skin, thereby supporting collagen synthesis and scalp metabolism. When performed with appropriate care, it offers a minimally invasive and effective approach for various localized inflammatory and vascular skin conditions.
