In Sushruta Samhita there is about 12 types of Jalouka, categorized as Savisha(Poisonous) and Nirvisha(non-poisonous). In Sushruta Samhita Jaloukavacharaniya Adhyaya, there is collection, preservation and procedure are explained. Also, in Uttarasthana of both Ashtanga Hridaya and Sushruta Samhita, we can get ideas of how Jalouka plays its role in different Netrarogas like Raktaja Abhishyanda, Pakshmashata, Kukunaka, Kshataja Shukra and Kacha. Jalouka is acting upon Pitta and Rakta by sucking out the vitiated Raktadosha from the site. So, it can be concluded like Jalouka has a very important role in Netrachikilsa.
